PHPF3.0 is proudly co-organized by PPB Group Berhad, PPB Properties and SONY Malaysia from 9 May – 28 July 2024.

Get ready to capture the vibrant essence of Penang’s rich cultural tapestry at the much-awaited Penang Heritage Photography Fiesta 3.0!

Calling all passionate photographers, amateur enthusiasts, and anyone with a keen eye for capturing the traditional flavours of Penang: this is your chance to shine! Join us as we embark on a journey to preserve the timeless charm and heritage of Penang’s food through your lenses.

Held in line with George Town UNESCO World Heritage Day, this campaign aims to increase awareness of the historical significance of Penang’s local arts, culture and heritage buildings. It also hopes to empower youths with practical photography skills.

Workshops

Led by experienced SONY trainers, learn hands-on practical photography and videography skills. Participants of all ages are welcome!

Competition

Capture the beauty of Penang through your lenses and win attractive prizes worth over RM35,000! Stand a chance to win a SONY camera, PS5, earbuds and GSC movie tickets.

All photo or video entries must adhere to the theme of capturing Penang’s traditional flavours via documentary-style photography or videography. Some guidelines below:

Documentary photography or videography i.e. photos or videos involving humans and food
Capturing real life situation and environments
Documenting food related traditions, cultures, or rituals
Highlighting the cultural, social and emotional dimensions of gastronomy/ connection between people and their culinary practices

Any entries which do not satisfy any of these criteria will be automatically disqualified.

This year’s categories consists of:

Category 1: Youth photography
Category 2: Youth videography
Category 3: Open photography

Participants are required to submit both PRINTED and DIGITAL copies of your photos.

For video categories, submit a short video between 60-90 seconds via the submission form below. Kindly refer below for the full T&Cs.

Photography categories submission details:

Printed copy – 11.7 inch x 16.5 inch sized photo printed on photo paper.
– Submitted to Foto President outlet before 10pm, 24 June 2024.
– The first printed photo is complimentary.
– Subsequent printed photos for submission will be charged RM25/per A3-sized photo.
– Your digital submission form on this website will need to be submitted together with your photos.
Digital submission
– Submitted in JPEG format, up to a maximum of 10MB via the submission form below.
– Provide a title and short description of your photo.

*Failure to provide both printed and digital copies of your photos will not be considered.

Videography categories submission details:

Video submissions must be posted as unlisted on YouTube and the link to the video submitted via the online submission form below.
The video must be between 60 – 90 seconds long, 1080p in landscape format. No portrait videos are allowed.
Provide a title and short description of your video.

Submit your photo or video entry via the website in any one of the following categories:
Category 1: Heritage of Penang’s Traditional Flavours Photography (Youth)
Category 2: Heritage of Penang’s Traditional Flavours Videography (Youth)
Category 3: Heritage of Penang’s Traditional Flavours Photography (Open)
Provide a unique title and description for your photo or video entry.
Photo submissions must include both printouts and digital copies, which should be uploaded through the online submission form at www.penangheritagephotofiesta.com.my by 23 June 2024.
After submission, participants are required to print the entry form from www.penangheritagephotofiesta.com.my and submit the hard copy along with the printed photo at the Foto President’s outlet located at Gurney Plaza.
Each participant is entitled to ONE (01) free-of-charge printed photo at the Foto President outlet located @ at Gurney Plaza. If more than one (01) printed photo is submitted, participants must pay the special price offered by Foto the President’s outlet at RM25/per A3 photo paper printing.
Printed photos must be dropped off at the Foto President’s outlet located at Gurney Plaza, 170-03-27/28, Gurney Dr, 10250 George Town, Penang. All photo entries must be submitted by 10.00 p.m. on 24 June 2024.
Video submissions must be posted as unlisted on YouTube, and the link to the video should be submitted via the online submission form at www.penangheritagephotofiesta.com.my

Terms & Conditions:

This Competition is organised by PPB Group Berhad (the “Organizer”) and is open to all Malaysian citizens, aged 15 years old and above.
Category 1 & 2 is strictly limited to individuals aged 15 – 25 years old only. Entries from an individual who does not fall within this age group will be automatically disqualified.
All photo or video entries should follow the theme of heritage buildings and/or traditional craftsmanship. Entries which do not follow these themes will be automatically disqualified.
The Organizer will not be responsible for any technical fault or failure which prevents a person from entering the Competition.
All photo and video entries must be received by 11:59 p.m. (Malaysia time) on 11 June 2023 via the online submission form on penangheritagephotofiesta.com.my
Printed photos must be submitted to the Organizer’s Penang office at No.29 & 31, Lorong Swatow, 10500 George Town Penang on weekdays only (Monday – Friday) between 9am – 6pm. All photo entries must be submitted by 6pm on 11 June 2023.
Each photo entry must be 11 inch x 16 inch printed on photo paper, mounted on a black mounting board with a 2 inch border. The participant’s name, contact number, email address, category of submission, title and short description of the submission must be clearly labelled at the back of the mounting board.
A digital copy of each photo entry must also be submitted via the online submission form on penangheritagephotofiesta.com.my. Digital photos must be in JPEG format, up to a maximum of 10MB.
The Organizer reserves the right to request for the original file from participants if needed, to assist with the judging process.
Failure to provide both a printed and digital copy of photo entries will result in automatic disqualification.
Participants are required to provide a unique title & description for each image submitted in the online submission form.
Each video entry submitted must be between 60 – 90 seconds long, 1080p in landscape format.

Any video entries submitted in portrait format will be automatically disqualified.
Participants are required to provide a title and short description for each video.
All submitted photos must contain the original EXIF metadata information. However, there must be no border(s), logo(s), copyright marks, identifying marks, or any other visible references and/or marks on the image or videos.
Basic editing, including colour enhancement, the use of filters, and cropping of the photo(s) and video(s) is acceptable, provided any such editing does not affect the authenticity and/or genuineness of the photo(s) and video(s).
Advanced editing used to create illusions, deceptions and/or manipulations, and the adding and removing of significant elements within the frame is prohibited.
Participants must submit original photographs and videos which are unpresented and unreleased in any other competition or platform.
No plagiarism and stealing of others’ masterpieces or creative works, i.e. each photograph or video submitted by participants must be their original work and participants are the only author of the photo(s) or video(s).
Photos or videos that portray or otherwise include inappropriate and/or offensive content are strictly prohibited and will be immediately disqualified.
Any entries which do not follow the theme or requirements set above will be automatically disqualified.
A total of twenty (20) winners with the best photo or video entry as judged by our panel of judges will be selected from all valid entries. The winners of each category will receive:
Category 1 & 2: Youth categories prizes
Grand Prize: One SONY digital mirrorless camera worth RM3,499 and a hard disk worth RM200
Second Prize: One SONY noise cancelling headphones worth RM1,499 and a hard disk worth RM200
Third Prize: One SONY wireless Bluetooth speaker worth RM619 and a hard disk worth RM200
Consolation prizes: 2 winners x 10 Golden Screen Cinema (GSC) movie tickets worth RM260 each and a hard disk worth RM200
Category 3 & 4: Open categories prizes
Grand Prize: One 2D1N stay at Shangri-La Rasa Sayang Resort Garden Wing Deluxe Room worth RM900, a SONY Peak Design camera bag worth RM450 and a hard disk worth RM200
Second Prize: One 2D1N stay at Shangri-La Golden Sands Resort Deluxe Room worth RM500 and a hard disk worth RM200
Third Prize: RM300 Shangri La cash vouchers and a hard disk worth RM200

The Organizer reserves the right to substitute any prize with another item of the same value.
Multiple entries are permitted; however, each participant may only win one (1) prize.
Winners will be announced during our awards presentation ceremony on 16 July 2023.
Each participant agrees to be bound by the rules, regulations and decision(s) of the Organizer.
The Organizer reserves the right to delete and disqualify any entry or content deemed unsuitable.
The Organizer will not be responsible for any damage, loss, death or injury incurred by participants due to technical problems or data leaks occurring due to the usage of Google Drive or any other social media or in connection with the Competition in any manner whatsoever. By submitting an entry to the Competition, the participant understands and agrees that he / she is joining the Competition at his / her own risk and that no claims of any kind can be made against the Organizer.
The Organizer shall not be responsible for any damage, loss, death or injury arising from the usage of the prizes or in connection with the Competition in any manner whatsoever. No claims of any kind shall be made against the Organizer.
The winner of the Competition will be notified by the Organizer via e-mail, mobile number, or other reachable mediums, if needed, to verify the details and be informed of the results.
The Organizer will not be held liable in the event any winner of the Competition cannot be contacted or fails to respond to the Organizer’s message within twenty-four (24) hours from the notification of winning for whatever reasons and in such an event, the Organizer reserves the right to disqualify the winner and select an alternative winner.
The Organizer retains all rights to publish and use the names, personal details, photographs and/or video recordings of the participants including all materials submitted during the Competition for the purposes of advertising and/or trade publicity for promotions, without any prior notice to the participants who by submitting their entries to the Competition hereby consent to such use by the Organizer. All participants shall not be entitled to claim ownership or other forms of claims or compensation whatsoever on any of the materials submitted to enter the Competition. By submitting an entry to the Competition, each participant and/or their parent/guardian on behalf of the participant hereby consents to continue receiving promotional materials and information from PPB Group Berhad.
In addition, where any data/information or photograph(s) relating to the participant and/or any third party is submitted to the Organizer by any participant in connection with this Competition, each participant:-
a) warrants that he/she has informed the relevant third party of the terms and conditions of this Competition and has obtained and is in possession of all necessary consents and shall continue to maintain such consents as may be required by the Organizer for the usage and processing of such data/information for the purposes stated herein; and
b) agrees that it shall be his or her responsibility to advise the Organizer in writing should there be any relevant change in the aforesaid consents or data/information provided to the organizer which requires action on the part of the Organizer.
The Organizer reserves the right at its sole and absolute discretion to amend the terms and conditions mentioned above or in connection with the Competition at any time without prior notice.
The Organizer reserves the right at its sole and absolute discretion to suspend, modify or terminate this Competition at any time without prior notice.
The Organizer’s decision on any and all matters in respect of the Competition is final and conclusive and no further disputes, challenges, objections, requests, claims or correspondence whatsoever will be entertained.
